Autism Story | Treatment Works | A Great Need | Consideration Amount | Pledge Card

In some cases, you have no doubt noticed that you are being asked to consider an amount for the Highlands Foundation “Changing Lives” Funding Project. The use of a ‘consideration amount’ is a fundraising principle followed by organizations undertaking well-planned campaigns, yet it often raises questions with potential donors.
What is a consideration amount? What do I do if I want to give less or more?
The amount is exactly what it says – for consideration only. It’s a starting point for a volunteer team to begin talking to potential donors about participating in the Foundation’s campaign. It is neither a demand, a requirement, nor a bill. A donor prospect may give less, or more, than the amount suggested for consideration. Or, the donor may choose to not give at all.
Why ask for a specific amount at all?
To achieve a goal of $850,000, the Highlands Foundation is asking potential donors to consider larger gifts pledged over three-to-five years. If potential donors were only asked to give to the immediate Funding Project rather than considering a longer-term gift, most would reach into their pockets and give $20, $50, or $100, thus lengthening the time for the Foundation to meet its fundraising goal.
The consideration amount:
- Raises the sights of potential donors
- Shows that the Foundation is committed to achieving an ambitious fundraising goal, and
- Most importantly, encourages serious consideration of a generous gift
